Modified Pecha Kucha 10 x 10 is a presentation style for elementary students or beginning presenters. It is not tied to Microsoft Powerpoint or Google Slides. At my school, we are using Google Slides virtually.

Modified Pecha Kucha teaches students how to build an image and voice-based presentation.

Regular Pecha Kucha 20x20 is practiced by adults and is 6:40 of total speaking time. Modified Pecha Kucha style students pick between creating  10 slides to 20 slides. Then the student picks whether to speaks for 10 to 20 seconds about each slide.  Presentation are between 1:40 to 3:20 to 6:40 depending on their choices. The Flipgrid recording window is two-minutes for Unit 1, and 8-minutes for Unit 2. This recording gives students enough time to click start screen share, click over to start the slides, take a calming breath, and start talking. Students are allowed to cut the beginning and/or ends of the recording window if they choose, but this technicality does not impact their final grade in any way.  If students have completely messed up their recording, Flipgrid allows them to erase and start over.

Unit 2: October & November
Pecha Kucha for Social Studies with optional Bibliography. Teacher directed research and electronic resources provided.

4 asynchronous virtual lessons 45 minutes weekly of Computer lab

DUE:  Final Project Due November 7, 2020

  • Week of October 5 - general research, download the template, choose a topic
  • Week of October 12 - title slide, complete 1 - 10 content slides
  • Week of October 19 -  complete 10 - 20 content slides
  • Week of October 26 - finalize and record your Flipgrid. Depending on your number of slides and time you choose to speak for each slide 10 or 20 seconds, your final presentation will be between 1:40 and 6:40 of speaking.
  • Week of November 2 - We have had some holidays and missed classes, so I am extending the deadline one week.

Learning Target:  Student will research, build and record a Pecha Kucha style presentation, 10x10 to 20x20, showing their understanding of a social studies topic. Electronic research links are provided per grade level social studies standards.

**Discovery students use this link to Discovery class for your Mini-Project.

Requirements:
  1. Slide Number: 1 Title Slide & 9 to 19 topic slides.  20 slide limit. Most students will still do 10x10 or 10x20 allowing them to speak 20 seconds per slide.
  2. Typed Words: Only 0 to 9 words typed on slides, names, dates, places, numbers. No "speaker notes" appear on slides. Students may use the template for their grade and modify (change) the template as they choose.
  3. Slides should automatically transition. This means no clicking-mouse while presenting. [There are different instructions for 10 seconds per slide and for 20 seconds per slide.]
  4. Audio and Video Recording Captures a powerful student voice telling audience details about slide that is shown on the screen.
  5. Topic: Choices from social studies curriculum.
  6. Last slide - OPTIONAL Bibliography or Works Cited. If included, there is NO SPEAKING on this slide. When this slide comes up, the speaker stops talking. The presentation is over. A variety of citation styles are allowed, including URL's.
