TIMELINE of this PROJECT

Picture

Week 1

By the end of Week 1, I will have watched at least 4 videos found below. I will collect items or materials from around my home, I will try several ways of making the sound.  Whatever I hear, I will imagine where that sound might be used in a movie.  I can record my sounds and my commentary in FLIPGRID. If I have extra time, I will try to make additional sounds.

Week 2

By the end of Week 2, I will record the Foley sounds in Flipgrid and explained how I improved the Foley sound creating.

OPTION #1: record over a short video scene.

OPTION #2: Record up to 4 foley sounds.

FLIPGRID DUE November 15, 2020 by 8:00PM

ASK

Ask | Imagine | Plan-Research | Create | Test | Improve

What are you being asked to do?

The student will...
  1. The student will find thing in your home that makes noises or sounds.
  2. The student will create an imaginary scene for each sound (1 to 4).
  3. The student will recording in FLIPGRID while making the sounds near your mic. Pause the recording and do a second run of your sounds, improving the production of the sound. Explain your sound's potential future use.
  4. The student will use pause to set up your sound maker things. (video how to link)
SAFETY FIRST
NO GLASS or FLYING OBJECTS.
STAY out of the ROADS.

Imagine the Scenario...

Imagine the sounds you hear in movies.
Imagine you work as a Sound Engineer at Eagle Animation Productions. The Writing Team has asked the Sound Team for some everyday, common, real-life sounds for your next TV episodes.

What could you use?
How would you make the sound?

PLAN & RESEARCH

Ask | Imagine | Plan-Research | Create | Test | Improve

Research - Definition of Foley Sound
Foley sounds is any sound made without a typical instrument or voice including  signing and speech. Foley artists can use the human body and voice to make pops, whirls, whooshes, beat-box mouth sounds. A specific type of Foley sound is the onomatopoeia sounds that appear in comic strips and graphic novels in the "call-outs" like Zap! Pow! and Boing!. These are onomatopoeia words - which means the name of the sound is the sound.

Research - What are Foley Sound Artists?
Foley Sound Artists are a type of Sound Engineer. Foley Sound Artists record real-life, everyday, common sounds. These sounds make TV and videos more realistic. Sounds like doors shutting, books banging, drawers shutting, typing, writing, lights on, scraping, etc.

How do Foley Artists make Sounds to Record?
Foley Sound Artists scrape, hit, smash, roll, rub-together, bnd, or move everyday objects to make everyday sounds. Sometimes “TV sounds” are not as they seem.

Create 1 to 4 Foley Sounds and Record Them
1. Pick some everyday common objects already in your home, to make sounds with.
2. Get enough things to make 1 to 4 Foley sound effects.
3. Open Flipgrid & record yourself making 1 to 4 different Foley sounds. After you make each sound, tell us what you used to make the sound and when you might use that sound in a video.
4. Your first run through the sound recording, discuss how you improved each try. What was your goal, and what did you evaluate and change on the second time you recorded your sound.
